The Inner Journey from Personality to the Authentic Self

The ancient inscription on the oracle of Delphi “Man, Know Thyself” represents a very important statement in relation to the inner journey, as it affirms the importance of going beyond the idea we have about ourselves, the personality, in order to connect with the authentic self who fully knows what we are here for and what we have come here to do.

The journey from personality to the authentic self is a profound and transformative process that transcends the superficial layers of identity shaped by external influences. It is a voyage into the depths of one's true essence—an evolution from the masks we wear to the true self that resides within. This inner journey is not defined by external achievements or societal status, but by a deep connection to our inner truth, our values, and our purpose.

Personality is often seen as the collection of traits, behaviours, and characteristics that define how we present ourselves to the world. It is shaped by a myriad of factors, including upbringing, culture, experiences, and external expectations. While personality serves the purpose of helping us navigate social interactions and adapt to our environment, it often becomes a barrier to truly understanding ourselves.

Throughout our lives, we develop “masks” to meet the expectations of others and to protect ourselves from vulnerability. These masks can include roles such as the achiever, the caretaker, the rebel, or the perfectionist. While they serve their purpose, they can distance us from our authentic selves, creating an internal dissonance.

When we over-identify with our personality, we may find ourselves trapped in cycles of validation seeking, fear of judgment, and the pressure to conform. This can lead to feelings of emptiness, dissatisfaction, and a lack of fulfilment. The journey toward self-awareness begins when we recognize these patterns and question their origins.

The true self is, on the contrary, our deepest nature, what we are beyond external influences. It is that part of us that remains immutable, the source of our authenticity and our creative potential. Discovering the true self means freeing ourselves from the superstructures that limit us and reconnecting with our unique essence.

The transition from personality to self involves peeling back the layers of conditioning to uncover the core of who we truly are. This process which is both introspective, and experiential, occurs, whether we are aware or not, throughout each individual life. When consciously chosen, it requires courage, patience, and an open mind, because it involves exploring values, beliefs, and needs, and aligning one's thoughts, words, and actions with these internal truths.

This two-day course lays the foundation of a deep understanding of the human life journey from the personality to the authentic self - a lifelong process of self-discovery and growth, moving from a constructed or externalized personality to a genuine, inner-directed self, who has come to this life to express and offer their special gifts and talents to the human community for the benefit of all.

• Mapping the Individual Hero Journey in the Ancient Wisdom Systems Personal Charts (Astrology, Numerology, 72 Angels, etc.).

This on-line course, organized and credited by the International Initiation School as part of the Holistic Professional in the Model of the Soul Facilitator training, is open to all participants and requires no pre-requisites.
